Professional Background

Max Webborn is a South Wales–based filmmaker and founding member of Flytrap Films. A First Class Film graduate of Newport Film School (2016), he has worked as an Assistant Director on major TV productions including Doctor Who and His Dark Materials. Formerly Editor/Director at Cardiff’s Black Lab Films, Max helped deliver premium branded content for clients such as Mercedes and National Geographic. Proficient across the Adobe Creative Suite, he now specialises in documentaries, short films, brand films and advertising. His award-winning feature documentary Ivor Allchurch: Golden Days was directed, shot and edited by Max.

Independent Work

BLACK LAB FILMS: Editor / Director | January 2021 – February 2022 Cardiff-based production company. Delivered television advertising, branded video and social-first content as part of a small in-house team. Led post-production editing across projects and supported creative rollout of promotional assets across the website and social channels.

SWANSEA CITY AFC: Multimedia Officer | August 2017 – January 2021 Produced in-house video, graphics, and live match streams as part of the club’s media team. Worked closely with the Head of Media & Marketing to deliver high-end promotional content and marketing campaigns with global reach.

FREELANCE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: Various Roles | March 2016 – August 2017 Worked across film and television productions within the Assistant Director department. Credits include: His Dark Materials (BBC/HBO), Doctor Who (BBC), Will (TNT), and The Rack Pack (BBC, feature film).
