FILM ABERTAWE is a visionary cooperative network founded in Swansea with a bold, long-term mission: to establish the city as a nationally recognised centre for independent film production, creative collaboration, and sustainable studio innovation. Rooted in local talent and global ambition, the initiative aims to transform the regional film industry through a cooperative model that prioritises creativity, equity, and environmental responsibility.

PHASE 1 - FILM ABERTAWE will focus on stimulating independent film production across the city, supporting local filmmakers, attracting new productions, and building a connected, collaborative infrastructure across existing talent, production companies, and creative practitioners. This phase is about energising the sector from within, unlocking immediate opportunities, and laying the foundations for long-term growth.

PHASE 2 - The cooperative’s longer-term strategic aim will be the creation of a biophilic, low-carbon, film production studio in the heart of Swansea City. This flagship facility will not only provide cutting-edge infrastructure for independent productions but also function as a cultural and educational hub, offering skills development, training, and career pathways for local people.

Uniquely, the studio will operate on a regenerative model, redistributing a share of profits back into local film projects, helping to build a circular economy that nurtures creativity and sustains local growth.
